Burner supply in glass production
When used in the manufacturing and forming of glass, Witt solutions help to reduce the set-up costs and wastage during product changes. Modular electronic gas mixing and dosing systems by the Germany-based company with „MFC“ technology (MFC = Mass Flow Controller) not only keep set-up times extremely short but also supply digital measurement data to ensure permanent quality control.
For different production processes such as separating, shaping, tempering, flame polishing, burling or rounding, the burner supply must each be set individually. This adjustment of the mass flow of flammable gases causes long set-up times and wastage. The fully-electronic gas mixing and dosing system MDE solves this problem.
Modular design
With its modular design the system can be expanded fast
and easily depending on the required burner performance. A new set-up can be implemented within 30 minutes. Ralf Winkler, Witt product manager, explains the benefits of the optimized product series: “We fully re-engineered the design of the MDE series and realized a lean construction. The control technology is now assembled onto highly compact mixing blocks. These separate units can be variably combined depending on the number of burners that need to be supplied.”
This new variable connection technology is space-saving and allows various installation layouts. In addition the block assembly considerably reduces the variety of parts. Benefits for the user are obvious: fewer sources of defect and a reduction of installation and repair times
Fast and precise reproducibility
In contrast to analogue control engineering, the digital control ensures exact reproducibility of any process parameter once it has been defined. The deviations do not exceed one percent plus half of one percent of the final scale value. The MDE series reaches the required target values in less than 0.3 seconds. The device is equipped with an auto-calibration function to ensure rapid, accurate flow rate control.
The control function compensates external interferences and keeps the values stable throughout the entire production process. Manual readjustment (if the temperature changes for example) is not necessary.
Complete documentation
Analogue technology (0-5 or 0-10 Volt) or an integrated profibus system allow remote control from a PC with serial interface, a PLC machine control or the evaluation systems from WITT. The electronics allow the machine operator to influence the flame setting while a process is in progress or even to navigate “ramps” (slow increases or decreases in consumption). The MDE series delivers a continuous data flow from the sensor to the control unit so that specific operating parameters can be assessed and monitored. The consumption of individual gases can also be recorded accurately. This way, the system meets the quality and cost control requirements in this area of glass production as well
High safety
Witt’s gas mixing and dosing systems combine all components required for the burner supply in a single unit. Non-return valves, filters and solenoid valves are already incorporated. Equipped with an integrated flashback arrestor, the MDE series meets the highest of safety levels.
