  • Can I use a gas mixer in a filling plant for premixed gases?

    No, because most systems require 200 bar - we can only do that with an additional compressor.

  • What happens in case of power outage?

    This depends on the mixer type. With purely mechanical mixer types such as the BM-2M or MG-FIX/FLEX, nothing happens. With non-combustible gas, an mechanical mixer continues to run. With combustible gas mixers, the combustible gas is shut off, e.g. with the MG100-ME Ex.

  • Is the mixer housing waterproof?

    The standard delivery condition is splash-proof. If you require a housing with a different IP class, please indicate this in the inquiry form or contact your WITT contact person.

  • Do I need weather protection for my gas mixer?

    Yes, place the undamaged device on a solid surface in a location protected from the weather and accidents. When setting up, observe the environmental conditions specified in the technical data in the manual, e.g. ambient temperature, safety zone, humidity, dust, altitude.

  • How can I be sure that the gas mixing ratio is correct?

    WITT gas mixers are characterised by high accuracy and reliability. To be on the safe side, you can add a gas analyser to monitor or control the mixture.

  • Which mixer do I need for welding applications?

    There are a variety of models for this application, depending on the customer's specifications.   • Which mixer do I need for food applications, i.e. for MAP in food packaging?

    There is a variety of models for this application, depending on customer specifications.   • We flush tubular bags with gas at very high speeds. Which mixer do I need for this that is particularly fail-safe?

    WITT gas mixers are generally considered to be high-quality and extremely reliable devices. In the gas mixer/food technology section you will find mixers that have been specially developed and tested for food applications, taking into account the requirements of this sensitive industry. For maximum safety, we also recommend control systems such as our inline gas analysis for form, fill and seal machines, MAPY LE.

  • Which mixer do I need for laser welding to ensure maximum consistency in the gas supply?

    The performance and quality of laser systems for welding and cutting metals is significantly influenced by the composition of the gases used. Gas mixers from WITT not only guarantee the reliable provision of gases in the required quantity and in the exact mixing ratio, but are also specially optimized for the highest possible purity.   • Can I mix different gas combinations with one mixer?

    Only in exceptional cases. When ordering your mixer, you must specify which gases are to be mixed. We configure the mixer specifically for these gases, as each gas has a different density and requires a special mixing valve. If you then use the mixer for other gases, the mixing ratio is usually no longer correct. Please use our customer service for your individual inquiry.

  • What does this mean "continuous and discontinuous flow"? And why is this important?

    Continuous flow and discontinuous withdrawal refer to two different methods of withdrawing or using gases from a supply source. Continuous flow - Continuous flow involves gas from the supply source (e.g. a gas cylinder or tank) at a constant and consistent rate over an extended period of time. This method is used when a continuous process requires a consistent flow of gas. For example, in industrial processes such as welding or chemical production, a consistent supply of gas is critical to maintaining a stable and controlled environment. Discontinuous flow - Discontinuous flow, on the other hand, involves using gas from the supply source intermittently or sporadically. This method is often used when the gas is only needed periodically or in specific quantities and not continuously. For example, in laboratories or small applications, gas may be used intermittently for experiments or specific processes. Most WITT gas mixers can be used for both applications. However, a gas tank is required for discontinuous flow. Please note the information in the data sheet or ask our staff or send us an inquiry form.

  • How do I determine the maximum flow for my gas mixer?

    On the data sheet of each model you will find a flow chart that shows the flow range. In conjunction with your process, you can see whether the amount is sufficient.

  • The gas mixture needs a certain outlet pressure. How do I know which mixer is suitable for this?

    Once you have chosen a WITT model of the right size, refer to the data sheet for the flow charts on the last page or contact your WITT representative.

  • I want to change the mixing ratio of my gases from time to time. Is that possible?

    Normally this is not a problem with gas mixers. You can change the gas mixture setting at any time to get the right gas mixture in a matter of seconds. However, there are models with a fixed mixture ratio that cannot be changed, eg the MG-FIX.

  • How can I monitor the inlet pressure and when is this useful?

    Many WITT gas mixers can be ordered with an inlet pressure monitor. Overall, monitoring inlet pressure is a critical aspect of maintaining the integrity and reliability of a gas mixing system. It helps ensure that the desired gas mixture is consistently delivered to ensure successful and safe operation. Monitoring helps detect and correct fluctuations, ensures safety, and helps optimize the process. Problems and malfunctions can be identified early. With data logging, recorded pressure data can be valuable for analysis and troubleshooting. It provides a historical record that can be reviewed to identify trends or patterns. Some industries have strict standards and regulations governing gas mixtures. Monitoring inlet pressure helps ensure compliance with these standards.

  • Can I use a mixer for CO2/N2 that has been configured for O2/N2?

    Yes, that is possible. But not the other way round: Since special purity requirements apply to O2, the mixer would immediately become contaminated if used with another gas and would therefore no longer be usable for O2.

  • How does a gas mixer work?

    There are basically two main types of gas mixers: gas mixers with a mechanical mixing valve and gas mixers with an electric mixing valve. Please refer to our gas mixer brochure for the exact functions, areas of application, advantages and disadvantages.

  • What do the model names KM and MG mean?

    The "K" in KM originally means "klein (small)", the "G" in MG "groß (large)". This means that the gas mixer family starting with "KM" serves small to medium flows, while the gas mixer family starting with "MG" is intended for medium to very large flows. The numbers after the "family name" (here: 20, 30, 50, 60, 100, 200) from low to high give an indication of the flow rate. The exact technical data can be found in the data sheet, which you can download for each model on the product page.

  • What does the abbreviation -ME mean in the model name ?

    The abbreviation “-ME” means that these models all have a combination of solenoid valve (M) and pressure switch (E) - a particularly reliable method of gas regulation, especially in the case of discontinuous extraction.

  • What are the advantages of mixing gases on-site compared to using ready-made mixtures?

    Mixing gases on site offers three main advantages. 

    • Cost savings: Mixing yourself is cheaper. There is no additional cost of buying premixed gases, which avoids packaging and transport costs. Waste is also minimized because only the gases actually needed are used, which leads to further savings.
    • Flexibility: Users can adapt the gas composition exactly to their specific requirements and create unique gas mixtures when needed. This is particularly important for precise applications and at the same time reduces the need for inventory.
    • Availability: The continuous availability of individual gases makes it possible to mix immediately when needed and avoid production interruptions. This ensures that fresh and stable gases are always available.
  • How do I determine the required gas combination and ratio for packing under protective atmosphere for my food product?

    This depends on your food. You can find initial guidance in our white paper or in the MAP brochure.

  • How should I know which gas mixer I need?

    This depends on a number of factors, such as application, environment, flow rate, gas types and location. The inquiry form for each mixer asks for the important parameters so that our specialists can offer you a suitable model on this basis. If you are unsure, please contact us.

  • What are the advantages of using gas mixers with electric mixing valves?

    Fine adjustment: Gas mixers with electric mixing valves can be regulated more finely than those with manual operation, resulting in a more precise gas mixture. 

    Reproducibility: The electronic control enables easy reproduction of gas mixtures, thus ensuring consistency in experiments or processes. 

    Remote control - These mixers can be integrated into a network, allowing convenient control and monitoring from a central location. Electronic gas mixers from WITT include the model families MEM+, KM FLOW, ERC and MFC.

  • What are the advantages of using gas mixers with mechanical mixing valves?

  • Can gas mixers be expanded individually or for specific applications?

    Yes, gas mixers can be expanded or adapted to special requirements. For example, additional components such as gas analysis modules or inlet pressure monitors with alarm functions can be integrated to expand functionality. During the quotation process, you can clarify all the options with your personal contact.

  • Can I get a certificate about suitability for food for my gas mixer?

    WITT gas mixers are designed for food-grade gases in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004. Our company is certified according to DIN EN ISO 22000 - you can download this certification from our website.

  • How long is the lifespan of WITT devices and their individual elements?

    WITT products are considered to be very durable, from the smallest part to the entire unit. There are many gas mixers that are more than 15 or 20 years old and still work. Our quality standards have been and are high, including self-produced and purchased parts such as gas sensors or displays. However, the service life depends on many factors, such as work cycles, environmental conditions and production, etc. If any malfunctions or errors occur, please do not hesitate to contact our support.

  • I have a 30-years-old, still functioning WITT gas mixer. Do you still offer maintenance for it?

    In many cases we can still offer maintenance services and spare parts. Please contact our support team.

  • How high is the maintenance requirement for WITT gas mixers?

    Gas mixers, especially those with mechanical mixing valves, are known for their robustness and low maintenance requirements. However, it is advisable to follow our guidelines for routine checks and maintenance procedures listed in the manual to ensure optimum performance over a longer period of time. In general, we recommend an annual maintenance check by WITT. Maintenance intervals depend greatly on the respective individual operating conditions. They are to be understood as guidelines that must be shortened or extended according to the respective individual operating conditions. With proper, regular maintenance, your device can achieve a very long service life.

  • Is there a regular check of my gas tank?

    The rules, standards and regulations of your country are paramount! According to the applicable national law the pressure vessel must be subjected to a periodic inspection before being put into operation. We recommend the following minimum intervals for periodic inspection by an approved testing organization: 

    • External inspection 2 years
    • Internal inspection 5 years
    • Strength test 10 years
  • Do I have to calibrate?

    No, you will receive your WITT gas mixer fully adjusted and tested.

  • Where can I get my EX-mixer set up?

    Make sure that the installation is carried out in accordance with the applicable national and international guidelines and standards for potentially explosive atmospheres.

  • Can I operate my gas mixer with gas generators?

    Make sure that the pressure and flow rates of the gases produced by the gas generator are within the operating range of the mixer. Mismatched or unstable pressures or flow rates can result in inaccurate mixing or possible damage to the equipment. To ensure accurate operation of the mixer, it may be helpful to route the gas from the generator to a gas container before mixing.

  • What happens if there is a sudden pressure loss in the gas inlet?

    Some fluctuation in gas supply is normal and is compensated for by our integrated automatic pressure control. If the pressure drop exceeds the tolerance, you should consult the manual for troubleshooting.

  • At which temperatures do the gas mixers work?

    In general, most standard gas mixers are designed for an operating temperature range of approximately -10°C to 50°C (14°F to 122°F). However, some special mixers have extended temperature ranges, either at the lower or upper end. If you are operating in extreme temperatures outside of this standard range, it is important that you consult our team about your specific gas mixer model. We also offer heaters as an option.

  • How high is the repeatability of the finished gas mixture?

    WITT gas mixing systems guarantee repeatability within the specified tolerances. Please refer to the respective data sheet.

  • How often should inspections and repairs be performed?

    WITT products are low-maintenance, very durable and of course comply with the latest standards such as DIN, EN and ISO. They also have all the relevant certifications and type tests. Nevertheless, we recommend having our devices serviced once a year to check seals and parts and to ensure that all functions are permanently guaranteed. In order not to miss the deadline, we also recommend a maintenance contract. Please contact our support team for this.

  • When do you recommend an integrated gas analysis?

    In principle, our mixers work within the specified accuracy even without analysis. Gas analysis can also be integrated as a quality control and long-term safety feature, e.g. for fuel gases. By integrating gas analysis into the mixer, you receive real-time data on the gas composition to ensure that the mixed gas meets the desired specifications.

  • Can I use my own gas receivers for the new WITT mixer?

    In general, there is nothing wrong with this. However, it must be checked whether the container meets the technical requirements. For example, it must be large enough to accommodate the volume that flows in within 4 seconds. The size is therefore calculated based on the desired flow rate.

  • Can I change my gas mixture by remote control?

    Most of our electronic gas mixers have an Ethernet connection that allows remote control.

  • How high is the gas mixture accuracy ?

    In general, all WITT gas mixers are known for their high reliability and accuracy. Most mixers have a mixing accuracy of better than ±1% absolute. However, there are some factors that have an influence, such as temperature, flow, pressure, gas types, etc. For more details, please refer to the data sheet of the model you have chosen.
